Dr Nathalie Hilmi

Head of Environmental Economics Section Centre Scientifique de Monaco

Dr. Nathalie Hilmi is a distinguished French environmental economist specializing in macroeconomics and international finance, with a particular focus on ocean economics and climate change. She earned her PhD in Economic Sciences from the University of Nice-Sophia Antipolis in 2000, and in 2011 obtained her accreditation to supervise research (HDR) with a multidisciplinary thesis on sustainable development.

Since 2010, she has led the Environmental Economics Section at the Centre Scientifique de Monaco, where she promotes research connecting environmental science and economics by assessing the socio-economic impacts of phenomena such as ocean acidification and climate change. She has organized international workshops on these topics and collaborated with the Environmental Laboratories of the IAEA.

Dr. Hilmi served as a lead author for the IPCC Special Report on the Ocean and Cryosphere in a Changing Climate (SROCC), and for the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6), contributing to the regional chapter on the Mediterranean. In 2022, she was appointed to the High Council for Climate of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, an advisory body guiding local public policy on ecological transition and climate adaptation.
